Women’s Lacrosse Loses to SUNY Canton (N.Y.) in Non-Conference Action

BRADENTON, Florida – The Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team lost to SUNY Canton, 15-9, in its final game at the Sticks Up Lacrosse Spring Fling in GT Bray Park.

BW (1-3) was led by sophomore attack Caitlin Wheeler (River Forest, Ill. / Oak Park-River Forest) and senior attack Emma Harding (Akron / Revere). Wheeler scored three goals and Harding added two more goals. Junior All-OAC midfielders Maddie Russell (Lakewood / Rocky River) and Katie Kocher (Rocky River) each contributed one goal and tallied one assist.

Canton (1-1) was led by senior midfielder Robyn Carroll with a game-high five goals. She also added a game-high four assists.

In the first half, the Kangaroos took an early 3-2 lead when freshman midfielder Tsieboo Herne scored on an unassisted goal at the 15:17 mark. The Yellow Jackets closed out the first half on a 4-0 run when Wheeler scored via an assist from freshman attack Hannah Albrechta (Uniontown / Green) at the 4:34 mark to take a 6-3 lead going into halftime.


In the second half, Canton regained the lead after going on a 5-0 run when junior midfielder Theresa DiMartin scored at the 19:05 mark. BW responded with two goals by Albrechta and Wheeler with the last coming at the 15:53 mark. The Kangaroos closed out the gamed by outscoring the Yellow Jackets 7-1 to secure the 15-9 victory

In goal for the Yellow Jackets, sophomore goalkeeper Taylor Giordanengo (Cranberry Township, Pa. / Seneca Valley) faced 29 shots, including 25 on goal and allowed 15 goals with 10 saves.  Giordanengo falls to 1-3 on the season.

Canton outshot BW, 29-27, including a 25-18 advantage in shots on goal and the Kangaroos had a 19-17 lead in ground balls.

BW is back in action on Saturday, March 19 when it travels to Greencastle, Indiana to square off against DePauw University in a non-conference game inside Reavis Stadium at 11 a.m.
