BW Women’s Lacrosse Picks Up First Win Versus SUNY Potsdam (N.Y.

BRADENTON, Florida – The Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team was defeated SUNY Potsdam, 18-14, in its second game at the Sticks Up Lacrosse Spring Fling in GT Bray Park.

Offensively BW (1-2) was led by sophomore attack Caitlin Wheeler (River Forest, Ill. / Oak Park-River Forest) and freshman attack Hannah Albrechta (Uniontown / Green). Wheeler scored four goals and dished out one assist and Albrechta added four more goals. Inside the crease, sophomore goalkeeper Taylor Giordanengo (Cranberry Township, Pa. / Seneca Valley) earned her first win and made nine saves for BW. 

Potsdam (1-1) was led by junior attack Murphy Newmann with a game-high six goals.   Senior attack Bri McClusky (Watertown, N.Y. / Immaculate Heart) added a game-high four assists.

The Bears took an early 2-0 lead when sophomore attack Rachel Huntley beat the Yellow Jackets goalkeeper at the 23:47mark. BW went on a 7-2 run to tak a 9-4 when junior midfielder Katie Kocher (Rocky River) scored a free position goal with 10:14 left in the half.  Potsdam outscored the Yellow Jackets 4-1 in the last ten minutes of play to cut the BW lead to 10-8 at halftime.

In the second half the Bears went on a 4-1 run when junior midfielder Alyssa Ferenczy scored a goal at the 23:33 mark to take a 12-11 lead. The Yellow Jackets answered when they outscored the Bears 7-2 in the remainder of the game to seal the victory.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Thursday, March 10 when the face off against SUNY Canton (N.Y.) on day five of the Sticks Up Lacrosse Spring Fling in GT Bray Park at 4 p.m.
