Women’s Lacrosse Beats NCAA DII Ursuline for Sixth Str​aight Win

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin University women's lacrosse team defeated NCAA Division II Ursuline College, 19-13, on Tressel Field inside George Finnie Stadium this evening.

BW (7-3) was led by sophomore attack Caitlin Wheeler (River Forest, Ill. / Oak Park-River Forest) with a season-high five goals and one assist for six points. Along with Wheeler, Junior midfielder Katie Kocher (Rocky River) added three goals and four assists for seven points and sophomore midfielder Kayla Miller (Hudson) scored four goals.

Ursuline (3-7) was led by freshman midfielder Haley Mazreku with a team-high five goals and junior goalkeeper Lauren Cole made 16 saves.

The Yellow Jackets opened the game on a 5-2 run when senior attack Emma Harding (Akron / Richfield) netted her 20th goal of the season at the 17:54 mark. BW outscored the Arrows 6-2 in the final 17 minutes of the first half to take an 11-4 lead at halftime.

The Yellow Jackets went on a 5-2 run and extended their lead to 16-6 to begin the second half when Wheeler beat the Arrows goalkeeper at the 15:13 mark. Ursuline answered with a 5-1 run to make it 17-11 of their own when junior attack Anika Aberegg netted her first goal of the game with 7:15 left in the game.  In the last seven minutes both teams scored two goals and BW held on for the victory.

In between the pipes, sophomore goalkeeper Taylor Giordanengo (Cranberry Township, Pa. / Seneca Valley) improved to 7-3.
