Miller and Russell Set BW Records in Women’s Lacrosse Win Versus Southwestern (Texas)

BEREA, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University sophomore midfielder Kayla Miller (Hudson) and junior midfielder and junior midfielder Maddie Russell (Lakewood / Rocky River) set BW single-game records in the 18-8 victory against Southwestern (Texas) University on Tressel Field inside George Finnie Stadium this afternoon.

Miller set the BW (6-3) record for goals in a single-game with a career-high 10 goals and Russell set the school-record for assists with a career-high eight assists. Along with Miller and Russell, freshman attack Hannah Albrechta (Uniontown / Green) scored a career-high tying four goals and added one assist for five points.

Southwestern (8-7) was led by junior midfielder Katie Davis who netted a team-high three goals. 

The Yellow Jackets outscored the Pirates 10-3 in the first half, led by Miller who scored four goals. Along with Miller, Albrechta added three goals, Russell, sophomore attack Caitlin Wheeler (River Forest, Ill. / Oak Park-River Forest), and junior midfielder Katie Kocher (Rocky River) also scored.

Southwestern went on a 3-2 run to start the second half and make the score 12-6 when senior attack Allison Schmitt scored a power-play goal at the 22:14 mark. BW outscored the Pirates 5-2 in the final 20 minutes of play to secure the win.

In net, sophomore goalkeeper Taylor Giordanengo (Cranberry Township, Pa.) picked up her sixth win of the season and freshman goalkeeper Marisa Nahem (Bexley) made a career-high eight saves.
