Nine First Half Goals Leads Women’s Lacrosse Past Houghton (N.Y.) in Home Opener

BEREA, Ohio –The Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse defeated Houghton (N.Y.) College, 15-5, on Tressel Field inside George Finnie Stadium this evening.

BW (4-3) was led by freshman attack Hannah Albrechta (Uniontown / Green) with four goals and three assists for seven points. Along with Albrechta, senior attack Emma Harding  (Akron / Richfield Revere) added four goals and sophomore midfielder Kayla Miller (Hudson) scored three goals and added two assists for five points.

Houghton (2-4) was led by sophomore midfielder Megan Oswald scored two goals and collected a game-high six ground balls.

In the first half the Yellow Jackets outscored the Highlanders 9-0. Harding scored three goals, Russell and Miller added two, and junior Caitlin Wheeler (River Forest, Ill. / Oak Park-River Forest) added another goal.

In the second half Houghton went on an early 2-1 run when Oswald beat the BW goalkeeper at the 16:07 mark to make the score 10-2. The Yellow Jackets outscored the Highlanders 5-3 in the final 16 minutes of play.

In between the pipes junior goalkeeper Taylor Giordanengo (Cranberry Township, Pa. / Seneca Valley) made seven saves making her 4-3 this season.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Friday, April 1 when they host Allegheny (Pa.) College for a non-conference on Tressel Field inside George Finnie Stadium. The opening face-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.  Fans can follow all of the action live at http://bit.ly/1o4SSCa
