Kocher and Russell Earn IWLCA All-Great Lakes Region Honors

BEREA, Ohio –Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse All-Ohio Athletic Conference junior midfielders Maddie Russell (Lakewood/Rocky River) and Katie Kocher (Rocky River) have been selected to the second-team Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-Great Lakes Region. 

Russell and Kocher join 256 other student-athletes in Division III that were selected to one of the All-Regional teams for 2016.  All 256 student-athletes are now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA All-American teams, which will be announced on Wednesday, May 18. The IWLCA will honor the National All-Americans at the IWLCA All-American banquet on Saturday, June 6 at the Radisson Hotel Valley Forge in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania.

Russell garners her second-team IWLCA All-Great Lakes Region honor after being named to the second-team last season. The three-time All-OAC first-team selection led the team with 33 caused turnovers, 64 ground balls, and 53 draw controls. She also added 30 goals and 26 assists for 56 points. Russell is the school's all-time leader with 139 caused turnovers, 212 ground balls, 143 draw controls, 181 points, and 114 goals. She also holds three BW game-records categories and two season school-records.

Kocher earns her first IWLCA All-Great Lakes Region accolade. The three-year letter winner led the OAC with 39 assists and scored 26 goals for a team-high 65 points. Kocher also tallied up 51 ground balls, 28 draw controls, and 24 caused turnovers. The three-time All-OAC pick is the school-record holder with 119 assists. In her career she has tallied 167 points, 134 ground balls, 83 draw controls, 75 caused turnovers, and scored 48 goals.

Russell and Kocher led BW to a 11-7 overall record. The Yellow Jackets had an OAC record of 4-3 and advanced to the OAC Tournament semifinal game.
