Men's Tennis Sweeps Washington & Jefferson

NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team opened the 2019 portion of their schedule with a 9-0 victory over Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) University at the North Ridgeville Tennis and Golf Club.

After falling in the initial service game, the tandem of sophomore Michael Benotti (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) and senior Ben Binion (Shelby) rallied off eight of the last nine to take the first doubles with a score of 8-2. The duo of senior two-time All-OAC and two-time Academic All-OAC Dominic Polifrone (Hudson) and senior two-time Academic All-OAC and All-OAC Matt Harris (Akron/Revere) sealed an 8-4 victory to take the second doubles match. Taking the final doubles victory was the combination of junior All-OAC Jake Elbin (Findlay) and Senior Academic All-OAC Roger Boyer (Medina/Brunswick) with a score of 8-5.

Freshman Miles Collins (Aliquippa/Hopwell) secured the first singles victory with consecutive 6-0 matches. Following with another sweep was sophomore Michael Benotti (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon). Polifrone grabbed the sixth singles match after scores of 6-2 and 6-1. Elbin was the next victor as he won his singles match with scores of 6-0 and 6-2.  Boyer defeated his opponent with scores of 6-0 and 6-3. Harris completed the comeback after falling in the first set and battled back to win the next two as BW came away with the 9-0 victory.

BW will be back in action on Friday, February 22 when they host Penn St. Behrend (Pa.) College at 6 p.m.
