GROVE CITY, Pa. – In a rescheduled match, the Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team claimed an 8-1 non-conference victory against Grove City (Pa.) College, on the Walters-Zbell Tennis Courts.
BW (11-2, 0-1 OAC) secured the first doubles match with the team of senior two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference and two-time Academic All-OAC Dominic Polifrone (Hudson) and senior two-time Academic All-OAC and All-OAC Matt Harris (Akron/Revere), who won their match 8-4. The duo of senior Academic All-OAC Roger Boyer (Medina/Brunswick) and junior Jake Elbin (Findlay) won the second doubles match with a score of 8-3, before the combination of freshman Edwin Schartman (Westlake) and sophomore Michael Benotti (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) seized third doubles with a score of 8-6.
In singles action, Harris defeated his opponent in second singles with back-to-back scores of 6-1, and Elbin won third singles with a line of 6-3 and 6-2. Benotti won fourth singles with scores of 6-1 and 6-0 before Boyer took fifth singles with scores of 6-2 and 6-1. Freshman Miles Collins (Aliquippa/Hopewell) grabbed the sixth singles match with scores of 6-1 and 6-4.
The Yellow Jackets will hit the courts next on Wednesday, April 10 when they welcome Ohio Northern University to Pop Collins Tennis courts for an OAC contest at 4 p.m.
