MASON, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team squared off against Franciscan University on Friday afternoon, and came away with a 7-2 victory on the Lindner Family Tennis Center courts.
BW (12-3), who is winners of three of its last five matches, won first doubles, 8-3 with the combination of senior three-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference and two-time Academic All-OAC Dominic Polifrone (Hudson) and senior two-time Academic All-OAC and All-OAC Matt Harris (Akron/Revere). Senior Academic All-OAC Roger Boyer (Medina/Brunswick) and junior Jake Elbin (Findlay) won second doubles by a score of 8-5.
Grabbing the first singles match was Polifrone who won 6-2 and 6-3. Harris won second singles by scores of 6-2 and 6-3 before Elbin grabbed third singles with scores of 6-3 and 7-5. Sophomore Michael Benotti (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) seized number four singles with consecutive 6-1 scores. Extending the Yellow Jacket lead with a victory in the fifth singles match, by scores of 6-2 and 6-1, was Boyer.
The Yellow Jackets will hit the courts tomorrow to square off against Marietta College at 3 p.m, at the Lindner Family Tennis Center.
