Men's Tennis Competes in ITA Championship Over the Weekend

ST. LOUIS, Missouri – The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team competed at the three-day Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Region tournament to conclude the fall portion of the 2018-19 schedule.

BW (2-0) was led by junior ITA Scholar Athlete Jake Elbin (Findlay) who won the UTR-D bracket with four victories. Elbin sealed the final match with scores of 7-5, 4-6, and 1-0.

Freshman Miles Collins (Aliquippa/Hopwell) won the UTR-D Consolation bracket with three victories and a bye. Sophomor Michael Benotti (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) finished his weekend with a record of 1-1. 

Two-time Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference, two-time All-OAC, and two-time ITA Scholar Athlete Dominic Polifrone (Hudson) won his first singles match with three scores of 1-6, 6-3, and 6-3 in the main draw. Polifrone suffered a loss in the next match to finish his weekend at 1-1. 

Senior Academic All-OAC and ITA Scholar Athlete Roger Boyer (Medina/Brunswick) secured a victory in the UTR D as well when he defeated Ben Echikson of Oberlin with identical scores of 6-2.

BW was represented by Polifrone and senior All-OAC, two-time Academic All-OAC, and ITA Scholar Athlete Matt Harris (Akron/Revere) in doubles. The tandem fell in their first match to a score of 8-6.

The Yellow Jackets will hit the court again in February, when they play Penn St.-Behrend on Sunday 10. Match time will be at 5 p.m.
