Men's Tennis Claims First OAC Victory Over Marietta

MASON, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team defeated Marietta College, 9-0 en route to their first Ohio Athletic Conference victory at the Lindner Family Tennis Center.

BW (13-3, 1-2 OAC) was led by senior three-time All-OAC and two-time Academic All-OAC Dominic Polifrone (Hudson) and senior two-time Academic All-OAC and All-OAC Matt Harris (Akron/Revere), as they won the first doubles match 8-2. Second doubles was secured by the duo of senior Academic All-OAC Roger Boyer (Medina/Brunswick) and junior Jake Elbin (Findlay), by a score of 8-2. Senior Ben Binion (Shelby) and sophomore Michael Benotti (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) won third doubles with a clean, 8-0 sweep.

In singles play, Polifrone defeated his opponent 6-1, 6-0 in the first match. Harris won second singles with scores of 6-2 and 6-0. Securing third singles was Elbin, and his line included 6-3 and 6-2, before Benotti won fourth singles with consecutive 6-0 scores. Boyer seized fifth singles with scores of 6-3 and 6-2. Freshman Miles Collins (Aliquippa/Hopwell) was the final BW victor as he grabbed the sixth singles with back-to-back 6-0 scores.

BW will be back on the Pop Collins Tennis Courts on Friday, April 19 for an OAC contest with Heidelberg University at 3:30 p.m.
