Men's Tennis Takes Down Penn St. Behrend

NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team defeated Penn St.-Behrend by a score of 8-1.

The duo of senior two-time All-OAC and two-time Academic All-OAC Dominic Polifrone (Hudson) and senior two-time Academic All-OAC and All-OAC Matt Harris (Akron/Revere) won the first doubles match by a score of 8-2. Sealing the second doubles was the tandem of junior Jake Elbin (Findlay) and senior Academic All-OAC Roger Boyer (Medina/Brunswick), who fell behind in the first service game and came back to win, 8-4. The third doubles match was won by the combination of sophomore Michael Benotti (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) and senior Ben Binion (Shelby), who defeated their opponent, 8-3.

Benotti secured the first singles match by scores of 6-1 and 6-0 before Elbin won the second singles match by scores of 6-1 and 6-0. Sealing the third singles match was Boyer with scores of 6-4 and 6-1. After falling in the first service game, freshman Miles Collins (Aliquippa/Hopewell) battled back to steal the fourth singles with scores of 2-6, 7-5 and 10-7. Freshman Eddie Schartman (Westlake) seized the fifth singles match with scores of 6-1, 7-5. Benion battled in the final singles match, taking his opponent to a tie-breaker set, but fell 2-6, 6-4, 8-10.

BW will hit the courts next in Hilton Head, South Carolina for its annual spring break trip and will play St. John Fisher (N.Y) College on Sunday, March 3 at 8:30 a.m.
