BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men's soccer team wrapped up its regular season with a 2-1 overtime victory versus Wilmington College tonight (Saturday, October 31, 2009) at Charlie Gilhart Field in Wilmington. The Yellow Jackets will enter next week's Ohio Athletic Conference tournament as the number-three seed.
B-W finishes the regular season at 12-6-1 overall, 7-1-1 in the OAC, and will host sixth-seeded and cross-town rival John Carroll University in the OAC quarterfinals on Tuesday, November 3 on Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium. Game time is TBA. Wilmington ends its season at 5-13 overall and 2-7 in the OAC.
The Yellow Jackets struck first at 6:42 of the first half when junior forward Tyler Leister (Stow/ Stow-Munroe Falls) scored off of an assist from sophomore forward Carlin Vandendriessche (Medina/ Senior). Wilmington evened the score in the 71st minute with a goal from Chris Geeding that eventually sent the game to overtime.
In the extra period, B-W scored in the ninth minute when senior defender Cory Weidner (Rocky River) pushed a ball past the Quaker goalie following a pass from Vandendriessche.
In goal, senior Russ Mika (Medina/ Senior) played all 99:22 and made eight saves.
B-W outshot the Quakers 22-19 while Wilmington held a 7-5 edge in corner kicks.
