Men's Soccer Team Beats Allegheny (Pa.), 5-0, for Third Straight Win

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men's soccer team defeated host Allegheny (Pa.) College, 5-0, today (Wednesday, September 23, 2009) in Meadville, Pennsylvania. The Yellow Jackets goals were supplied by five different players as B-W won its third match in a row.

With its win, B-W is now 3-5 overall and next plays on Saturday, Sept. 26 when the Yellow Jackets travel to New Wilmington, Pennsylvania to play Westminster College at 2:00 p.m. in the first game of a men's and women's soccer doubleheader.  With its loss, AC is now 4-3 overall.

After a scoreless first 30 minutes of play, B-W scored three goals before halftime with the opener coming at the 32:19 mark freshman midfielder Pat Brennan (Akron/ Walsh Jesuit) scored his first goal as a Yellow Jacket off an assist from sophomore midfielder Andy Thompson (Huron).  B-W increased the lead to 2-0 only seven minutes later in the 40th minute when sophomore forward Noah Eubanks (West Bloomfield, Mich./ West Bloomfield) scored his second goal of the season and Brennan tallied the assist.  Right before halftime, at the 43:34 mark, the Jackets went up 3-0 when senior All-OAC defender Cory Weidner (Rocky River) scored his first goal of the season, unassisted. 

In the second half of play B-W extended their lead to 4-0 at the 57:59 mark with a goal from sophomore All-OAC forward Carlin Vandendriessche (Medina/Senior)who is this week's OAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week. It was Vandendriessche's fifth goal overall. He was assisted by senior defender Nate Smith (Ashland/Senior). Shortly after, at the 58:45 mark of play, junior forward Tyler Leister (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) scored the fifth and final goal for the Jackets, unassisted.

Overall, the Yellow Jackets outshot the Gators, 20-9, and B-W outcornered Allegheny, 9-4.

In goal for B-W, senior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference player Russ Mika (Medina/ Senior) shut out the Gators for the first 71 minutes of action and recorded two saves.  Freshman Ryan Hulings (Centerville) played the final 19 minutes, and preserved the shutout for the Jackets.

Following its game against Westminster, B-W plays next Saturday, Sept. 29 at home against St. Vincent (Pa.) starting at seven p.m. after the women's game at five p.m.
