Men's Soccer Team Falls to Virginia Wesleyan, 1-0, in First Round of Chick-Fil-A Invitational

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men's soccer team fell to Virginia Wesleyan College, 1-0, today (Friday, September 11, 2009) in the opening round of the Chick-Fil-A Invitational in Virginia Beach. The Yellow Jackets wrap up the weekend versus Christopher Newport (Va.) tomorrow at 5:00 p.m.

With its loss, B-W falls to 0-4 this season, while Virginia Wesleyan improves to 3-0-1 this season.

Virginia Wesleyan's Brandon Massie scored unassisted at 20:36 for the only goal of the game.

Overall, the Marlins outshot the Yellow Jackets, 17-11, and outcornered BW, 6-3.

In goal, senior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference player Russ Mika (Medina/ Senior) recorded six saves. Ryan Zmuda also picked up six saves for Virginia Wesleyan.

Following its game tomorrow against Christopher Newport, the Yellow Jackets next play on Wednesday, Sept. 16 when they host traditional rival Oberlin College at 7:00 p.m. at Finnie Stadium in Berea in the nightcap of a men's and women's doubleheader. The BW women play Hiram College at 4:30 p.m.
