Men's Soccer Team Falls to SUNY-Geneseo, 2-1, in Overtime at PSU-Behrend Tournament

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men's soccer team lost to SUNY-Geneseo, 2-1, in overtime, in the opening round of the Penn State-Behrend Herb Lauffer Tournament in Erie, Pennsylvania today (Saturday, September 6, 2009). With the loss, the Yellow Jackets will play in tomorrow's consolation game at 2:00 p.m. versus Lebanon Valley (Pa.) College.

B-W is now 0-2 on the season and SUNY-Geneseo improves to 1-0-1.

Geneseo opened the scoring in the second half when Jason Tatrick scored five minutes into the period. The Yellow Jackets answered with a goal by junior midfielder Jeff Grater (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls), who tallied his second goal of the season at the 62:05 mark on a penatly kick. SUNY-Geneseo won the game with a sudden-death overtime goal from Ben Ariola, unassisted in the 104th minute.

Overall the Blue Knights outshot B-W, 9-6, and outcornered the Yellow Jackets, 5-4.

In goal, senior Russ Mika (Medina/Senior) made five total saves, all coming in the second half.

After tomorrow's consolation game, the next men's soccer game is on Friday, Sept. 11 when the Yellow Jackets travel to Virginia Beach, Virginia to play Virginia Wesleyan 7:00 p.m.  The Yellow Jackets will also play Christopher Newport (Va.) on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 5:00 p.m.
