Men's Soccer Team Beats Grove City (Pa.), 4-1, in Grove City for Second Straight Win

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men's soccer team defeated host Grove City College, 4-1, today (Saturday, September 19, 2009) in Grove City, Pennsylvania in the first game of a men's and women's doubleheader. The victory also was B-W's second straight.

With its win, B-W is now 2-5 overall and next plays on Wednesday, Sept. 23 when the Yellow Jackets travel to Meadville, Pennstlvania to play Allegheny College at 7:30 p.m.  With its loss, GCC is now 2-3-1 overall.

The Yellow Jackets built a solid 4-0 advantage in the first half. Sophomore forward Carlin Vandendriessche (Medina/ Senior) opened the scoring with his third goal of the season and the week at the 17:35 mark. He made it 2-0 with his fourth tally of the campaign at the 26:19 mark off of an assist from freshman midfielder Pat Brennan (Akron/ Walsh Jesuit) --the first of his career.

The score increased to 3-0 following the first career goal by freshman forward Tommy Kramer (Worthington/ Kilbourne) and with the second career assist from Brennan.

B-W increased its advantage to 4-0 at the 44:56 mark when sophomore forward Noah Eubanks (West Bloomfield, Mich./ West Bloomfield) scored his first career goal and Brennan had his third assist of  the game. Grove City scored the final goal of the match at the 76:55 mark to avert the shutout.

Overall, the Yellow Jackets outshot the Wolverines, 20-10, and BW outcornered Grove City, 5-4.

In goal for B-W, senior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference player Russ Mika (Medina/ Senior) shut out the Wolverines for the first 45 minutes of action and was replaced by freshman Ryan Hulings (Centerville) who played the final 45 minutes, allowed one goal and made a pair of saves.

Following its game against Allegheny, B-W plays next Saturday, Sept. 26 at Westminster (Pa.) College when the men play the first game of a doubleheader and the B-W wmen play the nightcap at 4:00 p.m.
