BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace University men's soccer team defeated host Mount Union College 1-0 this after (Saturday, October 03, 2009) in its Ohio Athletic Conference opener at Mount Union Stadium in Alliance.
With its sixth straight win, B-W improves to 6-5-0 overall and 1-0 in the OAC, while Mount Union falls to 7-4-0 overall and 0-1 in the OAC.
Yellow Jacket sophomore Carlin Vandendriessche (Medina/ Senior) scored the only goal of the contest off of an assist from senior Andy Weidner (Rocky River) at the 77:48 mark. The goal was Vandendriessche's team-leading ninth goal of 2009. The assist was the first in the career of Weidner.
In goal, senior Russ Mika (Medina/ Senior) made three saves to earn his second shutout of the season.
B-W outshot Mount Union 13-8 while the Raiders out cornered the Jackets 5-1.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action this Tuesday, October 6 versus Heidelberg at 7:00 p.m. at Tressel Field in Berea.
