BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men's soccer team opened the 2009 season by losing to Adrian (Mich.) College, 3-1, at The George Finnie Stadium on the Tressel Field pitch in Berea, Ohio. This was the second game of a women's and men's doubleheader.
The Bulldogs opened the scoring and took a 1-0 lead at the 15:51 mark of the first half when Cazz Warren scored off a deflection from eight yards out off of a corner kick. Adrian extended its lead to 2-0 when Justin McCurbin scored via a penalty kick at the 43:58 mark of the first stanza. B-W then got within a goal when junior midfielder Jeff Grater (Stow/ Stow-Munroe Falls) scored on a penalty kick at the 44:55 mark and right before the intermission.
Adrian scored the lone goal of the second half at the 65:39 mark by Jamie Brower off of a header to 'ice' the game.
Overall, Adrian outshot B-W, 11-10, and the Yellow Jackets outcornered the visiting Buklldogs, 6-5.
In goal, B-W senior Academic All-OAC goalie Russ Mika (Medina) played all 90 minutes, faced 11 shots and made a pair of saves.
The Yellow Jackets return to action this Saturday, Sept. 5 when they travel to Erie, Pennsylvania to play at the two-day Penn State Behrend College Tournament. B-W plays SUNY-Geneseo (N.Y.) in its first round at 4:00 p.m.. On Sunday, Sept. 6, the consolation game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. and the championship match at 4:00 p.m.
The next home B-W men's soccer game is on Wednesday, Sept. 16 when the Yellow Jackets host traditional rival Oberlin College at 7:00 p.m.
