Today's Contest
Today is the final regular game of the 2018 season for the No. 21-nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University football team as it travels to University Heights for an Ohio Athletic Conference clash against crosstown rival and No. 8-nationally ranked John Carroll University in the 30th Annual Battle for the Cuyahoga Gold Bowl Trophy.  The winner of the game will be the runner-up in the OAC standings and will secure a spot in the NCAA Division III National Playoffs.  

Week 9 Results
BW held off Ohio Northern University by a final score of 48-41 on Seniors' Day and the 30th Anniversary of the 1988 OAC Championship.  John Carroll notched its third shutout of the season as it blanked Heidelberg University by a final score of 27-0.

The Series
BW and John Carroll and Blue Streaks have met 57 times on the gridiron. The Blue Streaks leads the all-time series 28-25-4.  The Blue Streaks have won eight of the last 14 games.  The home team has won 12 of the past 16 meetings. The series began in 1923 when John Carroll defeated BW, 19-13. Three notable names who have taken part in this series, BW graduate and College Football Hall of Famers Lee Tressel '48 and Jim Tressel '75 and John Carroll grad and Pro Football Hall of Famer Don Shula.

Cuyahoga Gold Bowl Trophy Series
John Carroll leads the Cuyahoga Gold Bowl Trophy series by a margin of 16-13, including winning five straight. The last Yellow Jacket victory came in the 2012 season when BW posted a 32-28 victory in University Heights. The Yellow Jackets scored 15 points in the final nine minutes to rally for the victory.

Hilvert is in his second season at BW and has a record of 14-5 and an OAC slate of 12-5. He is 81-24 in his 10th overall season and is 0-1 against John Carroll.

Finotti is in his second season at John Carroll and has a record of 14-5 and OAC mark of 13-4. He is 1-0 vs. Baldwin Wallace.

Last Game vs. John Carroll-- September 16, 2017
BW scored 21 points on 189 yards passing, 151 yards rushing and 340  total yards.  John Carroll scored 24 points on 222 yards passing, 148 yards rushing and 370 total yards.  

Scouting the Yellow Jackets
In week nine of the season, BW scored 48  points on 266 yards passing, 242 yards rushing and 508 total yards.  Ohio Northern scored 41 points on 392 yards passing, 111 yards rushing and 503 total yards.

BW Leaders
Offensively, senior quarterback Jake Hudson (East Lake, Fla.) is third in the OAC with a career-best 2,290 yards passing. Hudson has completed 164 of 248 passes with a career-high 20 touchdowns and seven interceptions.  Sophomore running back Jon Murray, Jr. (Cincinnati/Withrow) ranks fourth in the OAC in yards rushing with 715 yards on 123 carries.  Murray his fifth in the OAC with nine touchdowns. Senior wide receiver Rob Wolfington (Rapids City, Mich./Elk Rapids) tops the receiving corps and is tied for seventh in the OAC with 39 catches.  Wolfington is fifth in the OAC with 674 yards and tied for eighth with six touchdowns. Defensively, junior linebacker Josh Liberati (Lisbon/David Anderson) tops the squad with 52 tackles. Senior defensive end Wezlee Spence (North Canton/Hoover) is third with 45 stops but leads the team with 13.5 tackles for loss and a career-high 9.5 quarterback sacks.

Scouting the Blue Streaks
In week of the nine of the season, John Carroll scored 27 points on  226 yards rushing and 172 yards passing for 398 yards of total offense. Heidelberg was held scoreless on 106 yards passing and 15 yards rushing for 121 yards of total offense.

John Carroll Leaders
Offensively, junior Academic All-OAC quarterback Anthony Moeglin has completed 114 of 199 passes for 1,548 yards with 13 touchdowns and six interceptions.  Sophomore running back Michael Canganelli leads the ground game with 963 yards on 195 carries with 13 touchdowns.  Senior All-OAC tight end leads the receiving corps with 284  yards on 25 catches with four touchdowns.  Defensively, junior linebacker Chad Stalnaker tops the team with 52 stops.  Senior defensive lineman Jimmy Thomas  is second in the OAC with 10 sacks.
