Today's Game -- Tonight is the 2018 season opener for Baldwin Wallace, which is kicking off its 125th football season, as it hosts the Alma (Mich.) Scots in the 41st Annual Lee Tressel Shrine Classic.  BW finished the 2017 season with an overall record of 6-4 and mark of 5-4 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.   Alma ended its 2017 campaign with a 4-6 overall record and a 1-5 slate in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association.  The Yellow Jackets have won seven of their last 10 season openers.

Series Notes -- BW and Alma are meeting for the very first time on the gridiron.

BW Head Coach Jim Hilvert: Hilvert is in his second season at BW and has a record of 6-4. He is 73-23 in nine overall and is 0-0 against Alma.

Alma Head Coach Jason Couch:  Couch is in his first season at Alma and his first overall season as a head coach in the NCAA.  He became the 30th head coach in program history in January.

BW Leaders: Offensively, senior quarterback Jake Hudson (East Lake, Fla.) returns as the two-year starting gun slinger after starting all 10 games last season and amassing  2,641 yards of total offense.  Hudson, who has started the last 16 games, had career-highs in completions (145), attempts (244), yards (2,027) and touchdowns (18).  He also returns as the leading  rusher with 519 yards with the graduation of All-OAC running back Austin Smith.   Junior  Chad Steinwachs (Buffalo, N.Y./Willamsville North) and Rob Wolfington (Rapids City, Mich./Elk Rapids) returns as the main targets for Hudson.  Steinwachs led the team with a career-best 35 catches and a career-high six touchdowns.  Wolfington was second with career-bests of 34 receptions and five touchdowns. Defensively, junior Academic All-OAC free safety Kyle Kelly (Wadsworth/St. Vincent-St. Mary) returns as the top tackler with a career-best 47 stops.  Senior All-OAC defensive back Ty Fields (St. Augustine, Fla.)led the OAC with 12 pass breakups and is the second returning tackler with a career-high 45 stops.

Alma Leaders:
Offensively, the Scots will have a new look in its backfield as both their quarterback and top rushers are all gone from a year ago.  Juniors Mason Ippel and Ryan Stevens will look to take off the signal calling duties.  Ippel completed only three passes last year while Stevens, who has been a starter on the men's basketball team, returns to football for the first time since high school.  Junior Austin Spratling is the lone returner in the backfield as he  carried the ball seven times for 48 yards in 2017.  Senior wide out Alex Yancy is the top returning target with 45 catches for 596 yards and four touchdowns.  Defensively, junior defensive back Colin Smith is the top returning tackler with 44 stops.  Junior linebacker Zeke Ramirez is second with 43 stops and 2.5 quarterback sacks.
