Volleyball Team Beats Notre Dame College, 3-1

SOUTH EUCLID, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team remained perfect this season by defeating NCAA Division II Notre Dame College of Ohio in four sets tonight (Wednesday, September 7) at the Keller Center Gymnasium.  The victory was the fifth straight for the Yellow Jackets to start the season.

With the victory, the Yellow Jackets improved to 5-0 overall, while Notre Dame falls to 1-4.

Norte Dame outlasted B-W in a marathon first set, 29-27, before the Yellow Jackets closed out the match by winning the next three sets by the scores of 25-11, 25-13 and 25-9.

B-W was led offensively by junior outside hitter Amanda Sawicki (Mentor/ Lake Catholic) with 20 kills and five blocks and junior middle hitter Rachel Switalski (North Royalton/ Parma Heights Holy Name) with 13 kills and five blocks.

Defensively, junior setter Jessica Stitts (Eastlake/ North) led the team with 41 set assists and 14 digs. Junior setter Natalie Emmons (Ashland) had 20 defensive digs.

B-W will next compete this Friday and Saturday, Sept. 9-10 when the Yellow Jackets co-host the 13th Annual Marcia French Memorial Tournament along with Case Western Reserve University.  B-W opens the tournament against Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) University at 4:00 p.m. on Friday and then plays Denison University at 8:00 p.m. On Saturday, the Yellow Jackets face Buffalo State (N.Y.) University and The College of Wooster at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. respectively.
