Volleyball Team Earns an AVCA Team Academic Award

Complete List of Teams

BEREA, OHIO --  The Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team earned an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for both its effort in the classroom and on the court during the 2010-11 academic school year.

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale. As a team, the Yellow Jackets posted a 3.312 grade point average.

"I am very proud of our volleyball program and its commitment to academic excellence," said Head Coach Vicki Brault, who enters the 2011 season with a 379-269 career record, including 309 wins at B-W. "We place a high priority on academic achievement and the total development of the student-athlete from the academic, athletic, social and spiritual perspectives."

The College places a high value on the student-athlete experience and the Division III philosophy. B-W has produced more CAPITAL ONE Academic All-America student-athletes (80) than any other OAC school and has the second most of any College Division member in Ohio.

"Each year, we set an academic achievement goal as a team," continued Brault. "Our goal last season was a 3.3 grade point average. By achieving a 3.312 grade average and to have similar success on the court (B-W had a 20-win season in 2010), we accomplished many of our goals. This fall, we look forward to continuing to pursue another team academic achievement award as well as challenge for both an Ohio Athletic Conference title and an NCAA Division III Tournament berth."

The Yellow Jackets had one of the best turnabouts in Division III last season.  Brault's team won five matches in 2009-10 and had an 11-match turnaround as it compiled an overall record of 20-13 a year ago with a young squad that lost just two seniors of its top nine players.

"Congratulations to the young women on our volleyball team who have worked so hard to excel in the classroom and on the court," said B-W Director of Athletics Kris A. Diaz. "We are very proud of their accomplishments and it is nice to receive recognition for all their hard work."
