Two Volleyball Players Named All-OAC

BEREA, OHIO – Baldwin-Wallace College junior volleyball student-athletes, Amanda Sawicki (Mentor/ Lake Catholic) and Rachel Switalski (North Royalton/Holy Name), have been named to the 2011 All-Ohio Athletic Conference team.  Sawicki was tabbed to the second-team and Switalski as an honorable mention choice. It also marks the second time that each student-athlete has been named All-OAC.

Sawicki and Switalski have been large reasons for the Yellow Jacket turnabout in volleyball. In 2009, B-W had a 5-24 overall record with Switalski seeing limited action as a freshman and Sawicki playing volleyball at OAC-rival Marietta College.

Last season, Switalski led the Yellow Jackets to a 20-13 mark while Sawicki had to sit out after transferring from Marietta. This season, the duo helped B-W compile an 18-13 overall mark and advance to the OAC semifinals.

Sawicki played in all 33 matches and 116 games and led the Yellow Jackets and was second in the OAC with 377 kills. She also was second in hitting percentage at .256 and total blocks with 34 and had eight set assists and 79 defensive digs.  As a freshman at Marietta, Sawicki was an honorable mention All-OAC pick.

Switalski also played in all 33 matches and 116 games and was an honorable mention All-OAC choice for the second straight season.  She leed the Yellow Jackets in hitting at .265 and total blocks with 43, was second with 256 kills and 33 service aces and contributed nine set assists and 119 digs.
