BEREA, OHIO --  The Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team was defeated by No.6-nationally ranked (American Volleyball Coaches Association) Heidelberg University, 3-1 tonight (Tuesday, October 11, 2011) in an Ohio Athletic Conference match in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

With the loss, the Yellow Jackets fell to 13-11 overall and 1-3 in the OAC while Heidelberg won its 14th straight match and improved to 22-2 overall and 5-0 in the OAC. The lone set that B-W won was only the 12th set all season that the Student Princes have allowed.

Heidelberg won the first set by a score of 25-23; B-W evened the match and won the second set 25-22. The Student Princes than went on to win the next two sets by scores of 25-11 and 25-23.

Despite its loss, B-W was led offensively by junior outside hitter Amanda Sawicki (Mentor/Lake Catholic) with 14 kills and sophomore defensive specialist Taylor Burns (Tiffin/ Fostoria St. Wendelin) with seven kills. The offense was set up by junior setter Jessica Stitts (Eastlake/North) with 35 set assists.

On the defensive side for the Yellow Jackets, junior defensive specialist Natalie Emmons (Ashland) led the team with 12 digs. In addition, sophomore right side hitter and defensive specialist Shannon Deleur (Olmsted Falls) contributed 10 digs.

The Student Princes were led by Marian Bevington with 12 kills. Bevington was followed by Jacki Street and Jackie Reinhart with nine kills a piece. The offense was set up by Rachel Ferguson with 30 set assists. Heidelberg was led defensively by Tessa Benanzer with 21 kills.

The Yellow Jackets will remain at home this Saturday, October 15 when they will host the Polar Bears of Ohio Northern University in an OAC match on Homecoming at 12:30 p.m.
