WESTERVILLE, OHIO --  The Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team lost in straight sets, 3-0, today (Saturday, October 8, 2011) to host Otterbein University in an Ohio Athletic Conference match in the Rike Center. Otterbein won the three sets by scores of 25-17, 25-21 and 25-14.

The Yellow Jackets fall to 13-10 overall and 1-2 in the OAC while the Cardinals, who are receiving votes in the AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) Division III national poll, improve to 18-4 overall and 3-1 in the OAC.

Despite its loss, B-W was led offensively by junior outside hitter Amanda Sawicki (Mentor/Lake Catholic) with 10 kills and junior middle hitter Rachel Switalski (North Royalton/Holy Name) contributed five kills. The offense was set up by junior setter Jessica Stitts (Eastlake/North) who led the team with 26 set assists.

Defensively, B-W was led by junior defensive specialist Natalie Emmons (Ashland) with 13 digs. In addition, sophomore right side hitter and defensive specialist Shannon Deleur (Olmsted Falls) contributed nine digs.

The Otterbein offense was led by Kristen Bennett with 14 kills and Tabitha Piper with 35 set assists.  The Cardinals were led defensively by Lindsey Russell with 13 digs.

The Yellow Jackets return to the friendly confines of the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Recreation Center in Berea on Tuesday, October 11 when they play host to No.8-ranked Heidelberg University in an OAC match at 7:00 p.m. B-W also is home next Saturday, Oct. 15 when it hosts OAC-rival Ohio Northern University in a 12:00 noon match on Homecoming Weekend.
