BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team defeated Capital University, 3-0 tonight (Wednesday, September 21, 2011) in an Ohio Athletic Conference match in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.  The contest was the first OAC match of the season for both squads.

With the victory, the Yellow Jackets snapped a two game losing streak and improved to 10-5 overall and 1-0 in the OAC. With the loss, Capital falls to 11-4 and 0-1 in OAC action.

B-W was led offensively by junior outside hitter Amanda Sawicki with (Mentor/ Lake Catholic) with 14 kills and junior middle hitter Rachel Switalski (North Royalton/ Holy Name) with nine. Junior setter Jessica Stitts (Eastlake/ North) set up the offense with 34 set assists.

Defensively the Yellow Jackets were led by junior defensive specialist Natalie Emmons (Ashland) with 16 digs, Stitts contributing 11, and sophomore right side hitter Shannon Deleur (Olmsted Falls) added 10.

The Crusaders were led offensively by Sanaya El-Naggar and Tara Luth with four kills apiece. Marissa Price set up the offense with nine set assists.

The Capital defense was keyed by Shannon Quinn with 15 digs and Elissa Foster added 14.

B-W will travel to Ada this Friday and Saturday, September 23-24 to participate in the OAC and Heartland Conference Challenge hosted by Ohio Northern University. The Yellow Jackets will face Transylvania (Ky.) at 3:00 p.m. and Hanover (Ind.) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday and will take on Bluffton and Mount St. Joseph at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. respectively on Saturday.  The Yellow Jackets will not return to the friendly confines of the Ursprung Gymnasium until Tuesday, October 11 when they play host to Heidelberg University in an OAC match at 7:00 p.m.
