ADA, OHIO --  The Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team split a pair of matches tonight (Friday September 21, 2011) at the Ohio Athletic Conference and Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Challenge hosted by Ohio Northern University in the ONU Sports Center.  The Yellow Jackets fell to Transylvania (Ky.) University 3-2 in the first match and defeated Hanover (Ind.) College, 3-1, in the nightcap.

With the split, B-W is now 11-6 on the season.

In the match with Transylvania (Ky.), the Yellow Jackets were defeated in five sets by scores of 25-17, 21-25, 26-24, 22-25 and 15-11. B-W was led offensively by junior middle hitter Rachel Switalski (North Royalton/Holy Name) with 14 kills and by freshman middle hitter Nicole Christner (Minerva). Junior setter Jessica Stitts (Eastlake/ North) set up the offense with 35 set assists. The defense was led by junior defensive specialitst Natalie Emmons (Ashland) with 22 digs as well as senior defensive specialitst Amanda Mass (North Royalton) who recorded 14 digs.

Against Hanover,  B-W defeated the Panthers in four sets by scores of, 20-25, 25-18, 25-21 and 25-14. The Yellow Jacket offense was led by junior Amanda Sawicki (Mentor/ Lake Catholic) with 16 kills and by Swatalski with 11. Freshman setter Katie Primeau (Pemberville/ Eastwood) in her first start of her career, set up the offense with 42 set assists.  Defensively, Emmons tied for the team lead in digs with sophomore Shannon Deleur (Olmsted Falls) with 16. 

The Yellow Jackets will conclude the OAC/HCAC Challenge on Saturday, September 24 when they will face Bluffton University at 10:00 a.m. and the College of Mount St. Joseph at 2:00 p.m.   B-W will remain on the road next week with a pair of matches at Case Western Reserve University on Tuesday, September 27 at 7:00 p.m. and an OAC match at Marietta College on Friday, September 30 at 7:30 p.m.
