Three Volleyball Athletes Named to Academic All-OAC

BEREA, OHIO -- Three Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball student-athletes have been named to the 2011 Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference team.

Senior outside hitter Chelsea Nissen (Williston/ Genoa) and junior middle hitter Rachel Switalski (North Royalton/Holy Name) were named to the Academic All-OAC team and sophomore middle hitter Colleen Bonacci (Stow/ Stow-Munroe Falls) was selected to the honorable mention squad.

Nissen is earning her second Academic All-OAC accolade.  She was selected as honorable mention last season. 

During her senior campaign, Nissen appeared in 24 matches and recorded 94 kills, one set assist, two service aces,  57 digs and 15 total blocks.  She ends her Yellow Jacket career with 639 kills, 778 digs and 87 blocks.  Nissen also excels academically with a 3.71 grade point average in biology, is a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma and Alpha Lambda honor societies and is a Jacket Scholar.

Switalski is earning her first Academic All-OAC honor after appearing in all 31 matches this season.  She led the team in hitting percentage at .265 and total blocks with 43 and was second on the team in kills with 256 and third in service aces with 33.  In three seasons, Switalski has tallied  600 kills, 313 digs, 95 blocks,  72 service aces, 28 set assists and has a .216 career hitting percentage. She also excels academically with a 3.636 grade point average in business administration and marketing, is a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma and Alpha Lambda honor societies and is a Jacket Scholar.  In addition to her academic accolade, Switalski has been named honorable mention All-OAC for the past two seasons.

Bonacci, a sophomore sports medicine and exercise major, is earning her first Academic All-OAC honor.  She had 85 kills, a .253 hitting percentage, 16 digs and 20 blocks. In two seasons, she has tallied  327 kills, 49 digs, 73 blocks and has a .200 career hitting percentage.   She also excels academically with a 3.92 grade point average.

In 2011, the Yellow Jacket volleyball program finished the season with a record of 18-13 overall and advanced to the semifinal round of the OAC Tournament. The trio have helped B-W produce a 38-26 mark the past two seasons.
