Volleyball Adds VanCauwenberge and Streicher to its Coaching Staff

BEREA, OHIO - Baldwin-Wallace College Head Volleyball Coach Vicki Brault announced the additions of Gary VanCauwenberge and Allison Streicher to the Yellow Jacket coaching staff.

VanCauwenberge joins the volleyball program after serving as the head volleyball and softball coach at NCAA Division II Lake Erie College for the past nine years.  Streicher, a native of Continental, comes to the College from Division III Bluffton College where she recently completed her playing career.

"Both Allison and Gary are going to bring passion and energy to the program," said Brault, who enters her 21st season overall and 17th at B-W and has 379 career victories. "Gary brings numerous years of experience coaching student-athletes who have had successful careers. Allison comes from an outstanding program at Bluffton and can relate to the players as she just recently completed her playing career."

While at Lake Erie, VanCauwenberge led the Storm to a record of 51-84, including a 13-21 mark during the 2007 season.  The 13 wins marked the most victories in a season since 1992.   He was tabbed as the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Co-Coach of the Year in 2001.  VanCauwenberge guided the Storm to three straight Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament berths,  including consecutive Final Four appearances in 2006 and 2007.

In softball, VanCauwenberge led the Storm to ECAC Tournament appearances in 2006 and 2008 and a school-record 26 victories and a number-five ranking in the Central Region in 2006. He was the AMCC Coach of the Year in 2004.

A 2000 graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University, VanCauwenberge earned a health and physical education degree. He played three seasons of volleyball as an outside and middle hitter for the Battling Bishop club team and served as a team captain. He also played one year as an outfielder for the OWU baseball team. After graduating in 2000, he received a master's degree in exercise and sports studies and a National Council for Accreditation of Coaching Education Level IV from Smith College in 2002.

At Bluffton, Streicher was a four-year varsity letter winner in volleyball and was named team captain as a senior. As a junior in 2009-2010, she helped lead the Beavers to a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference title and a berth in the 2009 NCAA Division III National Tournament.

Prior to coming to B-W, Streicher worked as an intern at the Pathways Counseling Center from January through April of 2011. During her internship, she improved her organization and communication skills to better prepare her for the challenges that await her as a collegiate coach.

"We welcome both Gary and Allison to our athletics family at Baldwin-Wallace College," said B-W Director of Athletics Kris A. Diaz. "Both bring a wealth of experience and knowledge and will be valuable assets to our volleyball program and overall athletics area.  We look forward to working with each of them."
