MARIETTA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team falls to Marietta College, 3-2 tonight (Friday, September 30, 2011) in an Ohio Athletic Conference match in the Ban Johnson Arena.
With the Loss, the Yellow Jackets fall to 12-9 overall and 1-1 in the OAC, while Marietta improves to 9-10 and 2-1 in the OAC.
Marietta outlasted B-W 3-2, by scores of 22-25, 28-26, 25-20, 14-25, and 15-12.
The Yellow Jackets were led offensively by junior middle hitter Rachel Switalski (North Royalton/Holy Name) as she recorded 15 kills. She was followed by junior outside hitter Amanda Sawicki (Mentor/ Lake Catholic) with 13. The offense was set up by junior setter Jessica Stitts (Eastlake/ North) with 40 set assists.
The defense was led by junior defensive specialist Natalie Emmons (Ashland) with 23 digs. She was followed by a host of Yellow Jackets including sophomore defensive specialist Taylor Burns (Tiffin/ Fostoria St. Wendelin) with 22, freshman Kayse Schmucker (Kent/ Roosevelt) recorded 17, junior Shannon Deleur (Olmsted Falls) had 16 and Stitts tallied 15.
B-W will remain on the road when it travels to nearby Oberlin to face the Yeowomen of Oberlin College on Wednesday, October 5 in a non-conference match at 7:00 p.m. The Yellow Jackets will return to the friendly confines of the Ursprung Gymnasium on Tuesday, October 11 when they play host to Heidelberg University in an OAC match at 7:00 p.m.
