ALLIANCE, OHIO --  The Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team was defeated by the University of Mount Union, 3-1, tonight (Tuesday, October 18, 2011) in an Ohio Athletic Conference match in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex (The MAAC).

With the loss, the Yellow Jackets fell to 14-12 overall and 2-4 in the OAC. Mount Union improves to 19-6 overall and 5-1 in the OAC.

The Purple Raiders defeated B-W in four sets, by scores of 25-12, 25-20, 15-25, and 25-16.       

Despite the loss, B-W was led by junior outside hitter Amanda Sawicki (Mentor/ Lake Catholic) with nine kills, while sophomore outside hitter Shannon Deleur (Olmsted Falls) was a close second as she contibuted eight. Junior middle hitter Rachel Swatalski (North Royalton/ Holy Name) recorded five kills, two service aces and one block assist. The offense was set up by junior setter Jessica Stitts (Eastlake/ North) with 28 set assists.

Defensively, B-W was led by junior defensive specialist Natalie Emmons (Ashland) with 24 digs, Deleur followed with 19. Sophomore defensive specialist Taylor Burns (Tiffin/ Fostoria St. Wendelin) was third with 17 digs.

Mount Union was led by Nicole Snyder with 14 kills. Snyder was followed by Taylor Webb with nine. The offense was set up by Julie Radigan with 41 set assists. The Purple Raiders defense was led defensively by Lauren Mastronie with 21 digs.

The Yellow Jackets will remain on the road this Saturday, October 22 when they will travel to Wilmington to face the Quakers of Wilmington College in an OAC match at 11:00 a.m. B-W will return to the friendly confines of the Ursprung Gymnasium on Tuesday, October 25 when it will host cross-town rival John Carroll University the "Dig Pink" match at 7:00 p.m.    The Yellow Jackets will conclude the regular season on Saturday, October 29 when they host the Muskies of Muskingum University on Seniors' and Parents' Day at 12:00 p.m.
