WESTERVILLE, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team defeated Otterbein University, 7-2, today (Wednesday, April 27) in an Ohio Athletic Conference Match. The victory was the 10th in the last 11 matches for the Yellow Jackets.
With its win, BW is now 14-7 overall and 7-1 in the OAC. The Yellow Jackets have won 54 of their past 57 OAC matches, including three of the past four OAC titles. BW has also advanced to three of the last four NCAA Division III National Tournaments. With its loss, the Cardinals fell to 12-8 overall and 5-3 in the OAC.
The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 3-0 lead by winning all three doubles matches. The number one duo of senior Caitlyn Pecinovsky (Whitehall/ Columbus Bishop Hartley) and junior Safaa Hajji (Rabat, MOROCCO) won, 8-6. The No.2 duo of junior Jenny Greene (Worthington/ Thomas Worthington) and sophomore Rebecca Mittler (Elyria/Catholic) won, 8-4 and the third doubles team of senior Emily Pelosi (Uniontown/Green) and senior Katy Marshall (Medina/ Senior) won, 8-5.
BW won four of six singles matches, as three of the of the four winners won in straight sets. The Yellow Jackets were led by Greene at No. 4 who won 6-0 and 6-3 to capture her team leading 19th overall victory. Hajji won at No.2 won by scores of 6-3, 6-3. Pelosi at No.5 and Marshall at No. 6 won by scores of 6-2, 5-7, 10-3 and 6-2, 6-2, respectively.
After 21 matches this season, Greene leads the team in singles with 19 wins and is 19-6 overall. Pecinovsky is 17-9, Pelosi is 18-8, Marshall is 16-9, Mittler is 15-13 and Hajji is 11-2.
BW is back in action on Saturday, April 30 when it hosts Muskingum University on Seniors' and Parents' Day in the final regular season OAC match at 1:00 p.m. The 2011 OAC Tournament will begin next week and the final four will be hosted by Ohio Northern University on May 6-7.
