BEREA, OHIO: The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team shut out visiting Adrian (Mich.) College, 8-1, today (Saturday, February 19, 2011) in the North Ridge Racquet Club in North Ridgeville. The win capped a sweep for the Yellow Jackets as they beat Northwestern Ohio University, 8-1, earlier in the day.
With its win, BW improves to 4-2 overall and the Yellow Jackets have won three straight matches. BW dominated play as it won 96 of 123 total points, including 72 of 91 in singles play and 24 of 32 in doubles action. With its loss, Adrian is now 0-1 overall.
The Yellow Jackets gained a 2-1 advantage in doubles. The No. 2 tandem of junior Safaa Hajji (Rabat, MOROCCO) and junior Jenny Greene (Thomas Worthington) won 8-0 and the No.3 tandem of freshmenMorgan Baker (Vermilion/ Elyria Catholic) and Laura Tiegler (Perry) won 8-3.
In singles play, the Yellow Jackets dominated with wins from Caitlyn Pecinovsky (Whitehall/Columbus Bishop Hartley) at No. 1 won by the scores of 6-1 and 6-0, Hajji at No. 2 by the scores of 6-2 and 6-0,Rebbeca Mittler (Elyria/Elyria Catholic) at No.3 by the scores of 6-2 and 6-4, Greene at No.4 by the scores of 6-4 and 6-2, senior Emily Pelosi (Uniontown/ Green) at No. 5 by the scores of 6-2 and 6-0 and senior Katy Marshall (Medina/ Senior) at No.6 by the scores of 6-0 and 6-0.
The BW women are back in action next Sunday, Feb. 27 when they travel to Gambier, Ohio to play perennial NCAA Division III powerhouse Kenyon College at 2:00 p.m.
