Five BW Women's Tennis Players Earn All-OAC Honors; Bethlenfalvy Named Coach of the Year

BEREA, OHIO -- Five members of the 2010-11 Ohio Athletic Conference champion Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team were named to the All-OAC team and Head Coach Jack Bethlenfalvy was tabbed as the OAC Coach of the Year for the second straight season and third time out of the four past seasons.

Senior No. 1 singles player Caitlyn Pecinovsky (Whitehall/Columbus Bishop Hartley) highlighted the BW selections with her third straight first-team nod and was joined on the first team by sophomore No. 3 player Rebecca Mittler (Elyria/Elyria Catholic).

In addition, BW had two second-team picks in junior No. 4 Jenny Greene  (Worthington/Thomas Worthington), and junior No. 2 Safaa Hajji (Rabat, MOROCCO). Also, senior No. 5 Emily Pelosi (Uniontown/Green) was tabbed as an honorable mention selection.

Bethlenfalvy, who has more wins than any other women's tennis coach in Ohio collegiate history, with a 314-199 career record in 27 seasons, earned his fifth OAC Coach of the Year acclaim.

Pecinovsky earns her fourth straight all-conference honor with first-team honors the past three seasons and a second-team selection as a freshman.  In 2010-11, she posted a 19-9 overall record competing strictly at the No. 1 position and was 8-1 during OAC play and was named the OAC Player of the Week on April 25. She also teamed with Mittler to post a team-leading 23-9 mark at No. 1 doubles which ranks tied for third all-time in BW women's tennis single-season history. In four seasons, Pecinovsky posted an overall singles record of 68-41 and a doubles mark of 73-47.  Her 68 victories in singles play ranks sixth on BW's all-time individual victories list and her 73  doubles victories sits in fourth place on the career doubles victories list.

Mittler was 16-13 overall in her second collegiate season at the No. 3 spot. She also went 7-2 during conference play and teamed with Pecinovsky for a team-leading 23-9 record at No. 1 doubles which tied for third all-time in BW women's tennis single-season history.  This is Mittler's first selection to the first-team as she was selected to the second-team last year.

Greene earns her third straight second-team honor. She played all but five of her singles matches at No. 4, posted a 20-6 overall record and went undefeated in the OAC with an 8-0 record. Greene also teamed with Pelosi for a 18-6 record at No. 2 doubles.  Greene had a total of 22 double victories this season which ranks sixth all-time in BW women's single-season history.  In three years, she has compiled a 45-35 record in singles play and a 51-35 record in doubles action.  Her 45 singles wins ranks tied for 15th all-time in BW women's tennis history and her 51 doubles victories ranks tenth all-time as well.

Hajji, a second-team selection, joined the team this winter and has been a strong addition at the No. 2 singles and in doubles play.  She posted a 13-2 record in singles play and went 6-3 in doubles competition.

Pelosi earns her third straight All-OAC selection, this year as an honorable mention. She led BW with an 22-9 singles record, playing primarily at the No. 5 position, where she was 16-0.  Her 22 wins ranks tied for fifth all-time in BW women's tennis single season history. She was 8-1 in conference play and teamed with Greene for a 18-6 mark at No. 2 doubles. Pelosi finished her distinguished career at BW with an overall singles record of 70-34 and a 54-31 record in doubles play in four season seasons. Her 70 singles wins ranks tied for fourth all-time on the BW career singles victories list and her 54 doubles victories ranks her tied for ninth place on the career doubles list.

The Yellow Jackets finished the season at 18-8 overall and won both the OAC regular season and tournament championships. The Yellow Jackets made their third trip to the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament and have won three of the last four OAC titles.

In the last four years, BW has an outstanding combined record of 67-34 and 45-3 in the OAC, including tournament play.
