Baldwin Wallace Women's Tennis Team Shuts Out Wilmington, 9-0, Inside Higgins Center

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team shut out Ohio Athletic Conference rival Wilmington College, 9-0, today (Friday, April 22) inside the Lou Higgins Center Fieldhouse in Berea.  The victory was the ninth in the last 10 matches for the Yellow Jackets. The match was moved indoors due to inclement weather.


BW dominated this match by winning 85 of 93 total games, including 61 of 67 singles games and 24 of 26 doubles games. With its win, BW is now 13-7 overall and 6-1 in the OAC and plays its final two regular season matches this coming week.  The Yellow Jackets have won 53 of their past 56 OAC dual matches, including three of the past four OAC titles and three NCAA Division III National Tournament berths. With its loss, the Quakers fell to 3-7 overall and 2-4 in the OAC.

The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 3-0 lead by winning all three doubles matches.  The number one duo of senior Caitlyn Pecinovsky (Whitehall/ Columbus Bishop Hartley) and sophomore Rebecca Mittler (Elyria/ Catholic) won, 8-0, to improve to 18-8 overall this season. The No.2 duo of junior Jenny Greene (Worthington/ Thomas Worthington) and senior Emily Pelosi (Uniontown/Green) won, 8-2, to improve to 14-5 this season. The No.3 tandem of senior Katy Marshall (Medina/ Senior) and freshman Morgan Baker (Vermilion/ Elyria Catholic) won, 8-0, to improve to 9-8 this season.

BW won all six singles matches. Pecinovsky won at first singles by the scores of 6-1 and 6-2 to improve to 18-8 this season. Mittler won at No.2 by the scores of 6-0 and 6-0 to improve to 15-12 this season. Greene won at No.3 and by the scores of 6-1 and 6-2 to improve to 18-6 this season. Pelosi won at No.4 singles by retirement after leading the first set, 1-0 to improve to 17-8 this season. Marshall won at No.5 singles and by the scores of 6-0 and 6-0 to improve to 15-9 this season. Sophomore Danielle Rueger (Ashland) won at No. 6 singles and by the scores of 6-0 and 6-2.

In an exhibition doubles match, freshman Laura Teigeler (Perry) and freshman Whitney Yoder (Medina/Senior) defeated their opponents, 8-2.

BW is back in action on Wednesday, April 27 when it travels to Westerville to face OAC-rival Otterbein University at 3:30 p.m. The final regular season match is next Saturday, April 30 when BW hosts OAC-rival Muskingum University on Seniors' Day at the "Pop" Collins Courts in Berea at 1:00 p.m.  The 2011 OAC Tournament begins the following week.
