Baldwin Wallace Women's Tennis Team Defeats Capital, 9-0, in OAC Opener

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team shut out Capital University, 9-0, today (Saturday, March 26) in the Ohio Athletic Conference opener for both teams. The match was played indoors at the Lou Higgins Recreation Center.

Baldwin Wallace, the defending OAC regular season and tournament champions, dominated the match by winning 96 of 101 total games, including 72 of 74 singles games and 24 of 27 doubles games.

With the win,the Yellow Jackets improve to 8-6 overall and 1-0 in the OAC. Capital falls to 0-1 overall and 0-1 in the OAC.

BW gained a 3-0 advantage in doubles as the number one tandem of senior number one singles player Caitlyn Pecinovsky (Whitehall/ Columbus Bishop Hartley) and sophomore No.3 player Rebecca Mittler (Elyria/Elyria Catholic), won 8-1; the duo of junior No.4 singles player Jenny Greene (Worthington/ Thomas Worthington) and senior No. 5 player Emily Pelosi (Uniontown/ Green) won, 8-1; the No.3 duo of freshman Morgan Baker (Vermilion/ Elyria Catholic) and senior No.6 player Katy Marshall (Medina/ Senior) also won, 8-1.

In singles play, BW won all six matches in straight sets as Pecinovsky won at No.1 by scores of 6-0, 6-0; junior Safaa Hajji (Rabat, MOROCCO/Ryad Al Maarifa) won at No. 2 by the scores of 6-0, 6-0; Mittler won at No.3 in 6-0, 6-0; Greene won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4, Pelosi won at No.5 by the scores of 6-0, 6-0 and Marshall won at No.6, 6-0 and 6-1.

BW returns to action on Friday (April 1) when they travel to Marietta College to play the Pioneers at 3:30 p.m. The Yellow Jackets next home match is Saturday (April 9) when they host John Carroll University at the Pop Collins Tennis Courts at 1:00 p.m.
