BW Women's Tennis Defeats Oberlin, 5-4, in Oberlin

BEREA, OHIO: The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team defeated traditional rival Oberlin College, 5-4, today (Saturday, February 12, 2011) in the Heisman Fieldhouse in Oberlin. This was the first winter-spring match for the Yellow Jackets.

With its win, BW improves to 2-2 overall. With its loss, Oberlin is now 1-3 overall.

The Yellow Jackets gained a 2-1 advantage in doubles. The number one duo of senior Caitlyn Pecinovsky (Whitehall/ Columbus Bishop Hartley) and sophomore Rebecca Mittler (Elyria/ Catholic) won 8-5 and the No.3 tandem of senior Emily Pelosi (Uniontown/ Green) and junior Jenny Greene (Worthington/ Thomas Worthington) won 8-4. To date, Pecinovsky and Mittler have the best doubles mark at 9-1.

In singles play, the two teams split six points. The Yellow Jackets received wins from Greene at fourth singles,Pelosi won at No.5 and senior Katy Marshall (Medina/ Senior) won at No.6. Greene won by the scores of 6-2 and 6-4. Pelosi, who had the match-winning point with the score tied at 4-4, won by the scores of 6-2, 6-2.Marshall won by the scores of 7-6 (7-4), 6-2. To date in singles play, Greene has the best mark at 6-3.

The BW women are back in action next Saturday, Feb. 19 when they host Northwestern (Ohio) University at 1:00 p.m. and Adrian (Mich.) College at 6:30 p.m. Both matches will be played at the North Ridge Racquet Club in North Ridgeville.
