HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team opened its annual Spring Break trip to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina today (Sunday, March 7) with a 7-2 loss to NCAA Division II Brevard (N.C.) College.
With the loss, BW drops to 4-4 overall. Brevard improves to 3-3 overall.
The Yellow Jackets, who play six matches in four days in Hilton Head, are seeking to win their fourth Ohio Athletic Conference title and earn their fourth NCAA Division III National Tournament berth in the last five seasons.
BW fell behind 2-1 after doubles play as juniors Safaa Hajji (Rabat, MOROCCO/ Ryad Al Maarifa) and Jenny Greene (Worthington/ Thomas Worthington) earned the lone win, 8-6, at the second position. Senior No. 5Emily Pelosi (Uniontown/ Green) picked up the only Yellow Jacket singles win with a 6-0 and 6-2 victory over Jennifer Nyman.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action tomorrow, Monday, March 8 when they play NCAA Division II University of Charleston (W. Va.) at 8:00 a.m. and then play Wittenberg University at 3:00 p.m.
The first spring northern matches will take place on Saturday, March 26 when BW hosts Ohio Athletic Conference rival Capital University at 1:00 p.m. All matches are played on the "Pop" Collins Courts in the BW campus.
