NORTH RIDGEVILLE, OHIO: The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team defeated Northwestern (Ohio) University , 8-1, today (Saturday, February 19, 2011) in the North Ridge Racquet Club in North Ridgeville. This was the second winter-spring match for the Yellow Jackets.
With its win, BW improves to 3-2 overall. With its loss, Northwestern is now 5-1 overall.
The Yellow Jackets gained a 2-1 advantage in doubles. The number one duo of senior Caitlyn Pecinovsky (Whitehall/ Columbus Bishop Hartley) and sophomore Rebecca Mittler (Elyria/ Catholic) lost 8-5, but BW would win all eight other matches. The No. 2 tandem of junior Safaa Hajji (Rabat, MOROCCO) and juniorJenny Greene (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) won 8-3 and the No.3 tandem of senior Emily Pelosi (Uniontown/ Green) and senior Katy Marshall (Medina/ Senior) won 8-5.
In singles play, the Yellow Jackets dominated for wins from Pecinovsky at No. 1 won by the scores of 5-7, 6-2, and 6-1, Hajji at No. 2 won by 6-4, 6-0, Mittler at third singles won by 7-6, 6-2, Greene at fourth singles won by 6-2, 6-3. Marshall won at No.6 by the scores of 2-6, 6-0, 6-2, and a tie breaking win from Pelosi at No.5 by scores of 6-2, 4-6, 6-5, with Pelosi winning the tie breaker 13-11.
The BW women are back in action later tonight when they host Adrian (Mich.) College at 6:30 p.m. The match will be played at the North Ridge Racquet Club in North Ridgeville.
