HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team lost to NCAA Division II University of Charleston (W. Va.), 7-2, and traditional rival Wittenberg University, 5-4, on the second day (Monday, March 7, 2011) of its annual Spring Break trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina. The Yellow Jackets will play three more matches in Hilton Head.
Against Charleston, BW fell behind 2-1 after doubles play as senior Emily Pelosi (Uniontown/ Green) andjunior Jenny Greene (Worthington/ Thomas Worthington) earned the lone win, 8-6, at the second position.
Charleston, who is now 17-2 overall, won five of six singles matches. Senior No.1 player Caitlyn Pecinovsky (Whitehall/ Columbus Bishop Hartley) won in a third set super tie-breaker by a score of 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-4).
Against Wittenberg, BW fell behind 2-1 after doubles with Pecinovsky and sophomore Rebecca Mittler (Elyria/Elyria Catholic) earning the lone win, 8-4, at the first position.
In singles play, BW won three of six singles matches all via straight sets as Greene won at No.3, Pelosi at No.4, and senior Katy Marshall (Medina/ Senior) at No.5.
Wittenberg improved to 7-0 with the win. The Yellow Jackets, now 4-6 overall, are back in action tomorrow, Tuesday, March 8 when they play Clarion (Pa.) University at 8:00 a.m. and Millersville (Pa.) University at 3:00 p.m.
The first spring northern matches will take place on Saturday, March 26 when BW hosts Ohio Athletic Conference rival Capital University at 1:00 p.m. All matches are played at the "Pop" Collins Courts on the BW campus.
