BEREA, OHIO -- The defending Ohio Athletic Conference-champion and NCAA Division III national-qualifying Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team shut out host and NCAA Division II Walsh University, 9-0, today (Saturday, September 25, 2010) to split a pair of matches overall. Earlier today, the Yellow Jackets lost at Case Western Reserve University.
The Yellow Jacket program, under the direction of veteran Head Coach Jack Bethlenfalvy, has won three of the past four OAC regular season and OAC Tournament titles and have advanced to three of the past four NCAA Division III National Tournaments. With its win, BW is now 1-2 in dual matches and ends its fall schedule next weekend when it travels to St. Louis, Missouri and Washington University for the 2010-11 Regional Championships from October 1-3.
In doubles play, the Yellow Jacket number one doubles tandem of senior No.1 singles standout Caitlyn Pecinovsky (Whitehall/ Columbus Bishop Hartley) and sophomore No.2 singles player Rebecca Mittler (Elyria Catholic) who won, 8-4, the No.2 duo of senior No.3 singles player Emily Pelosi (Uniontown/ Green)and junior No.4 player Jenny Greene (Worthington/ Thoams Worthington), won, 8-2, and the No.3 group of senior Katy Marshall (Medina/ Senior) and freshman Morgan Baker (Vermilion/ Elyria Catholic) won, 8-3.
In singles play, Pecinovsky won her match in three sets, including a super tie-breaker in the third set. In addition, Mittler at No. 2, Pelosi at No.3, Greene at No.4, Marshall at No.5 and junior Bethany Halusker (Cleveland/ St. Joseph Academy) at No.6 each won in straight sets.
