No.  4 Men’s Wrestling Defeats Wilmington, Clinches Share of OAC Title

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The No. 4 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University men's wrestling team clinched a share of its seventh Ohio Athletic Conference Championships in the last eight years as it defeated Wilmington College by a final score of 36-24 in an Ohio Athletic Conference match.

Prior to the match, BW (16-2, 6-0 OAC) and Wilmington (0-11, 0-7 OAC) agreed on a format that featured both teams weighing in at their respective institutions.  By agreeing on this format, the Yellow Jackets did not have to travel but still secured the victory.  BW claimed victories at six weight classes by forfeit while the Quakers won four matches by forfeit.

  • 133-pounds:    Junior Johnny Novak (Cleveland/St. Ignatius) won by forfeit
  • 141-pounds:    Junior Academic All-OAC performer Robby Palmieri (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) won by forfeit
  • 149-pounds:    Senior Conner Deboe (Mentor) won by forfeit
  • 157-pounds:    Garrett Simmons (WC) won by forfeit
  • 165-pounds:    Adrian Salamone (WC) won by forfeit
  • 174-pounds:    Alexander Ruth (WC) won by forfeit
  • 184-pounds:    Sophomore Evan Daniels (McDonald, Pa./Madonna {W. Va.}) won by forfeit
  • 197-pounds:    Freshman Shawn Earle, Jr. (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) won by forfeit
  • 285-pounds:    Mo Sissoko (WC) won by forfeit

The Yellow Jackets close out the regular season portion of their schedule on Sunday, February 12 when they travel to Alliance for an OAC match against the University of Mount Union and a non-conference match against NCAA Division II Ashland University in the Timken Gymnasium inside McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., respectively.
