No. 12 Men’s Wrestling Dominates Heidelberg in OAC Opener

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's wrestling team opened Ohio Athletic Conference action as it dominated Heidelberg University by a final score of 38-3 in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

BW (1-0, 1-0 OAC), who won nine of 10 matches, has now won 20 straight league matches and nine straight against Heidelberg (0-1, 0-1 OAC).

Match Results

  • 125-pound match: Junior Johnny Novak (Cleveland/St. Ignatius) won an 18-3 technical fall over Cole Renier 
  • 133-pound match: Junior and No. 9 nationally ranked Jaden Hinton (Glassboro, N.J.) won by pinfall in 2:33 over Iosef Nunez
  • 141 pound match: Senior Zak Anderson (Elyria/Midview) won an 11-2 major decision over Josh Gibson
  • 149 pound match: Senior Conner DeBoe (Mentor) won an 8-5 decision over Claude Buckmaster
  • 157-pound match: Junior All-American Michael Petrella (Reynoldsburg/Bishop Hartley) won a 19-4 technical fall over Anthony Grecol
  • 165-pound match Junior Academic All-OAC Hunter Kupniewski (North Royalton) won an 11-7 decision over Carson Mendoza-Pottenger
  • 174-pound match: Sophomore Carter Lloyd (Brecksville/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) won a 6-3 decision over Jacob Horsch
  • 184- Senior Academic All-OAC Griffin Rathburn (New Albany/Bishop Hartley) lost a 9-4 decision to Adam Medeiros
  • 197- Senior All-American Doug Byrne (Wickliffe) won by pinfall in 1:49 over Braedan Kahl
  • 285- Senior Academic All-OAC Matthew Werts (Buffalo, N.Y./St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute) won a 5-3 decision over Gabe Martinez
