Two Men’s Wrestling Student-Athletes Named to CSC Academic At-Large All-District Team

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Baldwin Wallace All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC senior 285-pounder Matthew Werts (Buffalo, N.Y./St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute) and junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC 141-pounder Robby Palmieri (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) have been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic At-Large All-District Team.

The duo now advances to Academic At-Large All-America ballot, which will be announced on June 21.

Werts, who garners his first accolade, carried a 3.908 grade point average in physics and computer science.  This season, he was a NCAA Division III national qualifier, All-Central Region 285-pound selection and All-OAC first-team selection.  Werts won a career-high 23 matches with a career-best seven pins and one major decision.  In his career, Werts won 58 matches and tallied 17 pinfalls and three major decisions. Off the mat, he was a three-time Academic All-OAC selection, two-time National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Scholar All-American, Dean's List student, Jacket Scholar and a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma and Dayton C. Miller honoraries.

Palmieri, who garners his first honor, carries a 3.944 grade point average in national security major.  This season, he was an All-OAC second-team selection.  Palmieri won a career-high 28 matches with career-highs in major decisions (4), pins (3) and technical falls (2).  In his career, Palmieri has won and has recorded five major decisions, four pins and three technical falls. Off the mat, he is a two-time Academic All-OAC selection, National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Scholar All-American, Dean's List student, Jacket Scholar and a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society.

BW finished the season with a record of 18-2 and while winning its third straight OAC Championship with a perfect 7-0 mark.  The Yellow Jackets also finished in a school-best third place at the 2023 NCAA Division III National Championships.
