No. 5 Men’s Wrestling Cages Otterbein in OAC Dual

BEREA, Ohio – The No. 5 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University men's wrestling team defeated Otterbein University in an Ohio Athletic Conference match by a final score of 45-3 in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

BW (12-2, 2-0 OAC) has now won 21 straight league matches and improved to 7-0 against Otterbein (5-4, 1-2 OAC).

  • 125 pounds:    Senior All-American and No. 7 nationally ranked Jacob Decatur (Akron/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) won by forfeit
  • 133 pounds:    Junior and No. 5 nationally ranked Jaden Hinton (Glassboro, N.J.) won by forfeit
  • 141 pounds:    Junior and Academic All-OAC Robby Palmieri (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) won by pinfall in 5:40 over Tamas Eder
  • 149 pounds:    Junior All-American and No. 1 nationally ranked Michael Petrella (Reynoldsburg/Bishop Hartley) won by pinfall in 6:25 over Nathan Leko
  • 157 pounds:    Freshman Manny Scordos (Brecksville/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) won a 6-1 decision over Austin Amens
  • 165 pounds:    Junior and Academic All-OAC Hunter Kupniewski (North Royalton) won a 2-0 decision over No. 13 nationally ranked Ryan Whitten
  • 174 pounds:    Sophomore Carter Lloyd (Brecksville/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) lost an 8-6 decision to Logan Cormell       
  • 184 pounds:    Senior and Academic All-OAC Griffin Rathburn (New Albany/Bishop Hartley) won a 18-1 technical fall over Kyle De Moss           
  • 197 pounds:    Senior All-American and No. 3 nationally ranked Doug Byrne (Wickliffe) won a 15-5 major decision Jarrod Setliff          
  • 285 pounds:    Senior Academic All-OAC Matthew Werts (Buffalo, N.Y./St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute) won by pinfall in 2:43 over Zac Stray   

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, January 21 when they travel to Ada to compete in the OAC Duals hosted by Ohio Northern University in the ONU Sports Center.  BW takes on No. 17 nationally ranked Ohio Northern at 12 p.m., crosstown rival and #12 nationally ranked John Carroll University at 1:30 p.m. and Muskingum University at 3 p.m.
