Four Individual Champions Lead No. 22 Men’s Wrestling to BW Invitational Title

BEREA, Ohio – The No. 22 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University men's wrestling team won the annual BW Invitational inside the Lou Higgins Center Fieldhouse.

BW finished first of nine teams with 150.5 points. The Yellow Jackets edge out second place Delaware Valley (Pa.) University by just two points.  BW had 16 Top-8 finishers, 13 Top-5 placers, four individuals champions and four runner-up finishers. 

Junior and No. 8 nationally ranked 133-pounder Jaden Hinton (Glassboro, N.J.) – Champion

  • Won a 16-6 major decision over Cole McKinley of NAIA Lourdes
  • Won a 10-1 major decision over Taylor Weaver of Delaware Valley (Pa.)
  • Won a 14-3 major decision over Joey langeman of Trine (Ind.)
  • Won an 11-5 decision over Ryan Kelly of Delaware Valley (Pa.)

Senior 141-pounder Zak Anderson (Elyria/Midview) – Champion

  • Won by pinfall in 2:55 over Lucas Sabo of Delaware Valley (Pa.)
  • Won a 7-5 extra time decision over Jimmy Balazy of NAIA Lourdes
  • Won a 15-0 technical fall over Ben Edwards of Trine (Ind.)
  • Won a 5-4 decision over Art Martinez of Case Western Reserve
  • Won a 10-1 major decision over Jett Boots of Trine (Ind.)

Sophomore 165-pounder Donovan Palmer (North Ridgeville/Lutheran West), who is ranked 10th at 174 pounds – Champion

  • Won a 15-0 technical fall over Tyler Weseman of NAIA Lourdes
  • Won an 8-2 decision over Joseph McCullough of Delaware Valley (Pa.)
  • Won a 6-1 decision over Bauer of Bauer of Baldwin Wallace

Senior All-American 197-pounder Doug Byrne (Wickliffe) – Champion

Senior 149-pounder Conner DeBoe (Mentor) – 2nd Place

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Friday, December 2 when they host a tri-match against NCAA Division II Tiffin University and NCAA Division III University of North Carolina at Pembroke in the Ursprung Gymnasium.  The Tiffin and UNC-Pembroke match is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. with the BW and Tiffin match slated for a 6:30 p.m. start.  The Yellow Jackets will face UNC-Pembroke in the final match of the night at 8 p.m.
