Men's Wrestling Climbs in Latest NWCA Division III Polls

MANHEIM, Pa. – The Baldwin Wallace University men's wrestling team climbed in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division III Top-25 Dual and Tournament Team Polls.

BW enters the latest poll as the No. 4 nationally ranked tournament team and the No. 5 nationally ranked dual team.  The Yellow Jackets are joined in the tournament team poll by fellow Ohio Athletic Conference members John Carroll University at 11 and Ohio Northern University at 18.   In the dual team poll, the Polar Bears are 16 and the Blue Streaks are 20.

In addition, five Yellow Jacket wrestlers are ranked national in their weight classes.  Senior All-American and defending 125 pound champion Jacob Decatur (Akron/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) is ranked fourth, junior 133-pounder Jaden Hinton (Glassboro, N.J.) is ranked third, junior All-American and 149-pound runner-up Michael Petrella (Reynoldsburg/Bishop Hartley) is ranked first, sophomore Tommy West (Avon Lake/St. Edward) is ranked 12th and senior All-American Doug Byrne (Wickliffe) is ranked fifth at 197 pounds.

Decatur is 14-1 on the season with three major decisions, one pinfall and one technical fall.  Hinton has record of 23-2 with seven major decisions, seven technical falls and one pinfall.  Petrella, who has wrestled at 149 and 157 this season, has a record of 17-0 with nine pinfalls, three technical falls and one major decision.  West, who is making his first appearance in the national rankings,  is 13-3 on the season with three pinfalls, two major decisions and one technical fall. Byrne, who is a two-time OAC Wrestler of the Week this season, has a record of 17-1 with 10 pinfalls, four major decisions and one technical fall.

BW is back in action on Saturday, January 21 when it travels to Ada to compete in the OAC Duals hosted by Ohio Northern University in the ONU Sports Center.  BW takes on Ohio Northern at 12 p.m.,  crosstown rival John Carroll at 1:30 p.m. and Muskingum University at 3 p.m.
