Women’s Golfers Finish Fifth at Denison Invitational

GRANVILLE, OHIO--   The two-time defending Ohio Athletic Conference champion and 25th-ranked Baldwin Wallace University women's golf team finished fifth today at the annual Denison University Fall Invitational Tournament at the Granville Golf Club.  This was the season-opening event for the Yellow Jackets.
 
The Yellow Jackets totaled 340 strokes today on the par-71 and 6,210-yard Granville G.C. layout. Combined with its score of 345 in yesterday's first round, BW totalled 685 strokes to place fifth of 11 teams and behind team champions Wittenberg University and its 652-stroke total.

The Yellow Jacket women were led by senior Rebecca Kapusta (Independence) who carded rounds of 85 and 84 for a 169-stroke total to place in a tie for 11th. She was followed by junior Miranda Cunningham (Dayton/ Dayton Christian) and senior  Brooke Hamilton (Cleveland/St. Joseph Academy) with 174-stroke totals to tie for 22nd place. Hamilton carded rounds of 85 and 89, and Cunningham had rounds of 88 and 86. Junior Sarah Allred (Akron/Green) tied for 24th with 175 strokes and had rounds of 93 and 82. Junior Rebecca Jones (Hilliard/ Darby) rounded out the five starters tied for 30th place with rounds of 86 and 92 for a 178-stroke total.
 
In addition and playing as individuals, freshman Sabre Adkins (Dublin/ Coffman) tied Allred for 24th place with rounds of 87 and 88 for a 175-stroke total, freshman Laura Vidmar (Willoughby/ South) carded rounds of 95 and 86 for a 181-stroke total to tie for 38th, and senior Sarah Terrill (Cuyahoga Falls/ Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) was tied for 76th with rounds of 112 and 106 for a 218-stroke total.

The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on Sunday and Monday, Sept. 23-24 when they will compete at the two-day Allegheny College Fall Invitational Tournament at the Meadville Country Club in Meadville, Pennsylvania.

BW entered the season ranked 25th in the NGCA (National Golf Coaches Association) Division III rankings (http://www.bwyellowjackets.com/sports/wgolf/2012-13/releases/preseason_tournament).

The past two years, the BW women's golf program has been one of the best in NCAA Division III. The Yellow Jackets have won nine tournament titles, including back-to-back OAC crowns, have advanced to two straight NCAA Division III national tournaments and have a 140-44-1 record.  All five Yellow Jacket starters have each earned All-OAC accolades the past two years.
