BW Women’s Golf Team Finishes Fourth in Arizona

PEORIA, Ariz. – The defending Ohio Athletic Conference champion Baldwin Wallace University women's golf team finished in fourth place at the two-day Phoenix Invitational Tournament today (March 16, 2013), hosted by George Fox (Ore.) University at the par-71 and 5,975-yard Westbrook Village Golf Course in Peoria, Ariz.

This is the first event of the 2013 spring season for the Yellow Jackets.

BW totalled 320 strokes on the first day and trailed tournament champion George Fox by 32 strokes in an outstanding field of competition.  The field includes No.2-ranked Washington (Mo.) University, No. 5 George Fox, No. 14 Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.) College, the University of Redlands (Calif.), BW, which each received eight and two points, respectively, in the latest top-25 voting, and St. Mary's (Ind.) College, which finished in the top-15 last year and was a pre-season No. 15 this season.

The Yellow Jackets were led by junior Miranda Cunningham (Dayton/ Dayton Christian) with a two-round total of 157 strokes, including a career-low round of 77 on the second day of action.

Seniors Brooke Hamilton (Cleveland/ St. Joseph Academy) and Rebecca Kapusta (Independence) and juniors Rebecca Jones (Hilliard Darby) and Emilee Woolf (Ravenna) each tallied 82 strokes in the second round.  Hamilton totaled 160 strokes over two days, followed by Jones with 162, Kapusta with 164, and Woolf with 167.

Competing individually, freshman Sabre Adkins (Dublin/ Coffman) fired rounds of 84 and 85 for a two-day and 36-hole total of 169 strokes and freshman Laura Vidmar (Willoughby/ South) carded rounds of 84 and 92 and finished with 176 total strokes.  Senior Sarah Terrill (Cuyahoga Falls/ Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) shot a 100 on day two and finished at 204.

Following George Fox in first place with 611 strokes was Washington University with 633, Redlands with 640, and BW.  Gustavus Adolphus with 656 strokes and St. Mary's with 668 rounded out the order.

BW is back in action on Saturday and Sunday, March 23-24, 2013 for the University of Mount Union Spring Invitational at Tannenhauf Golf Course.
